PTI decides to resume negotiations with government

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to resume talks with the federal government to settle the political impasse, the sources said on Friday.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the PTI core committee held in party Chairman Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala on Friday.

However, it was decided in the meeting that the PTI would not withdraw its demands for negotiations with the government.

Talking to media, the PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he will contact the Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar in this regard shortly.

The PTI leader said that the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak has also been included in the PTI dialogue committee.

The sources said that talks between the PTI and the government negotiating teams are expected in the evening.

On Thursday, the PTI suspended negotiations with the government after the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali removed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Aftab Cheema from his position because he did not want to use force against the protesters and appointed DIG Headquarters Khalid Khattak as the acting IGP.

In a statement, Qureshi said that his party’s decision had been taken because the government’s actions were opposite to their dialogue call.
