KARACHI, Pakistan: As many as 1,685 people have been killed in targeted killings in Karachi since an operation was launched against criminals in the city, a spokesman for the city police was quoted as saying by media on Friday.

Likewise, 49 bomb blasts, 84 kidnappings for ransom and 1,181 cases of extortion took place in Karachi during the same period, the spokesman said while quoting from a report on crime statistics prepared by the city police.

Moreover, the spokesman said that 1,480 incidents of street crime occurred in the city in this time.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided over a meeting in Karachi to review the law and order situation in the city, during which he said that the targeted operation against criminals in Karachi will continue till its logical conclusion.

The prime minister also directed the departments concerned to accelerate the targeted action against criminals in Karachi.
