ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) was held in Islamabad with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the chair, and approved a number of important projects in various sectors.

During the meeting, the ECNEC approved construction of Sukkur-Multan section of Karachi-Multan-Lahore motorway with a rationalized cost of Rs259.3 billion. It also approved the project for Land acquisition for construction of 959 kilometer Karachi Lahore motorway at a cost of Rs51 billion.

The ECNEC approved raising of Balochistan constabulary project at a cost of Rs5.146 billion. The project aims to assist police and district administration in maintenance of law and order by recruiting 6,000 additional force.

The meeting also approved flood emergency reconstruction project for bunds and canals with financial aid of the Asian Development Bank.

The ECNEC also approved the project for transmission of power from wind power plants at Jhimpir and Gharo wind clusters in district Thatta and Jamshoro.

The committee also approved acquisition of land for establishment of free trade zone at Gwadar at a cost of about Rs6.5 billion.

It principally approved the prime minister’s programme for provision of Laptops to 100,000 talented students at a cost of Rs4.928 billion.

The ECNEC also approved rehabilitation and up gradation of trimmu barrage and panjnad headworks and dualization and improvement of 64 kilometer long Mandra-Chakwal road.
