ISLAMABAD: The Afghan National Security Advisor Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Thursday and exchanged views on bilateral relations.

The prime minister’s advisor on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz, the prime minister’s special assistant on foreign affairs Tariq Fatemi, the Afghan deputy foreign minister Ateequllah Hatafmaal and the Afghan ambassador Janaan Musazai were also present at the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the Afghan National Security Advisor accompanied by a high level delegation comprising of senior officials of Afghan Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, National Directorate of Security (NDS) and National Security Council arrived in Islamabad.

Dr Spanta will also hold delegation-level talks with Sartaj Aziz, which will be attended by senior security officials from both sides.

The discussions will focus on ensuring deeper bilateral security cooperation. In this regard, the two sides will discuss ways of strengthening regular contact between the security authorities of the two countries.

"We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
