RAWALPINDI: At least 23 more local and foreign militants have been killed during the ongoing military operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ in the North Waziristan tribal region.

In a press release the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday that the Pakistan army gunship cobra helicopters targeted militants in Zartatangi mountain heights located in east of Miranshah tehsil of North Waziristan last night and killed at least 15 of them.

The ISPR said that it was one of the main communication centers of militants.

In a separate sniper action, eight Uzbeks were killed around Miranshah while planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the Miranshah-Mirali road, the ISPR said.

Meanwhile, the security forces continue to cordon off areas housing militants in North Waziristan agency while continuous militants attempt to flee from area have been foiled.

The ISPR further said that the evacuation of civil population from Miranshah and Ghulam Khan started today.

It said that check points have been established at various places where internally displaced persons (IDPs) are being provided all administrative support including food items and medicine by the security forces.

It further said that no of registration points at the Saidgai post has been enhanced to 20, 10 each for males and females for speedy and organized evacuation. The ISPR said that an IDP camp has been set up at Bannu.
