ISLAMABAD: The federal government filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Saturday against the ruling by the Sindh High Court (SHC) which ordered to remove the name of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf from the Exit Control List (ECL).

The petition was filed by the Attorney General Pakistan Salman Aslam Butt, requesting the apex court to not allow the removal of Musharraf’s name from the list and continue travel restrictions on the former military ruler.

In the petition, the attorney general contended that the federal government could not take the risk of allowing the former president to leave the country because there was a great incentive for him to flee in view of a treason case that involved the death penalty.

On Thursday, the SHC had ordered the federal government to remove the name of the former president from the ECL, granting a 15 days time for filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against the order.
