KABUL/ISLAMABAD: The Afghans will cast their votes on Saturday in a second-round election to choose a successor to President Hamid Karzai.

The country’s presidential run-off election will be held between former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah and ex-World Bank economist Ashraf Ghani amid tight security as the Afghan Taliban on Wednesday issued a new warning for people to stay away from the election.

The election came to a run-off poll after none of the competing candidates secured more than 50 percent of the total number of votes cast during the first round held on April 5, as required under the Constitution to win the election.
