MIRANSHAH: At least 16 suspected militants were killed in two successive US drone strikes in North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday.

The first attack occurred late on Thursday night when a US drone fired two missiles into a vehicle and a compound in Dargah Mandi village in North Waziristan, killing at least six suspected militants.

An intelligence official said that those killed in the attack included four Uzbeks and two Punjabi Taliban.

Later, at least 10 more suspected militants were killed and four others injured when a US drone fired eight missiles in Dande Darpakhel area near North Waziristan on early hours of Thursday.

The fresh US drone strikes took place in Pakistan after a nearly six months as the last drone strike carried out by the US in the country happened on December 26, 2013.
