LAHORE: A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker in the Punjab assembly Rana Jamil Hasan has been kidnapped on Saturday from an area near Pindi Bhattian. According to sources his family got phone calls from cellphone number of Afghanistan. Such sims are used within Pakistan also carrying Afghan cell network but operating in tribal areas. Police fear that he has been abducted by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) like of abduction of son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Hasan, who was elected to the Punjab assembly from PP-174, was on his way to Islamabad along with his family members when the kidnapping took place.

The kidnappers have demanded five crore rupees as ransom for Hasan’s recovery. They have also threatened the MPA’s family with serious consequences in case the payment is not made to the group within two days’ time.

Meanwhile, police has launched an investigation into the abduction of the MPA.
