Troika-Plus meeting of APA to be held in Islamabad on May 27

ISLAMABAD: The Senate of Pakistan will host the Troika-Plus meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) on Tuesday (May 27), during which a number of important subjects pertaining to Asia and APA, particularly the strategy for transformation the APA into a functioning Asian Parliament will be discussed.

In the meeting, around 30 to 40 delegates from different countries including Afghanistan, Bahrain, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iran, Jordon and Syria are expected to participate.

The Chairman Senate and President APA Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari, First Vice President of National Assembly of Cambodia and Deputy Speaker of Syrian Parliament will address the inaugural session of the meeting.

In the first two sessions, the meeting adopting agenda would discuss the implementation of the decision of the 6th plenary session held in Islamabad in December last year.

It includes strategy to be adopted for gradual transformation of APA into Asian Parliament, formation/finalisation of eminent persons group, enhancing interaction of APA with established Asian Forums in Parliamentary, executive and economic fields and recent developments in Asia and ways and means to curb violence, promote dialogue and peace in Asian sub-regions.

In the concluding session, the report of the Troika-Plus meeting and Islamabad communiqué would also be adopted.

The Senate of Pakistan hosted the 6th plenary of the APA in December last year, in which more than 240 delegates from 31 countries participated.
