PM says commission to be set up for recommendations for journalists’ protection

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that a commission including media, government and other important official representatives would be established to evolve recommendations for protection of journalists.

“We want to see Pakistan as journalist friendly country,” the prime minister said during a meeting with Kati Marton, the widow of former US Diplomat Richard Holbrook, who called on him in Islamabad on Wednesday.

“Pakistan will ensure security of local and foreign journalists,” the prime minister said.

On the occasion, Kati Marton appreciated the prime minister’s resolve to fortify democratic institutions and norms in the country, especially strengthening supremacy of law.

Kati Marton said that sentence for the culprits involved in the killing of journalist Wali Khan Babar has strengthened supremacy of law in Pakistan delivering a strong message to the international community.
