PM Nawaz, Imran Khan discuss peace talks with Taliban

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan have agreed to continuation of peace dialogue process with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The two leaders agreed when the prime minister visited Imran Khan’s residence in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss issues pertaining to peace talks with the Taliban.

During the meeting, the prime minister was accompanied by the federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali khan, the prime minister’s special assistant on national affairs Irfan Siddiqui and political secretary Asif Kirmani.

On the other hand, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Javed Hashmi, Shereen Mazari and Jahangir Tareen were present in the meeting to assist Imran Khan.

The sources said that the prime minister took Imran Khan into confidence about the next strategy on peace talks with the TTP.

Talking to media after the meeting, the PTI chairman said that several forces want to sabotage peace talks with the Taliban. He said that we want peace without bloodshed.

The PTI chairman said that operation should be the last option to end the militancy in the country. Meanwhile, he appreciated the prime minister’s efforts for peace.

Imran said that he asked the prime minister to add the issue of polio health workers’ safety as part of the dialogue and get the Taliban to commit to it. He said that he also asked the prime minister to ensure continuation of the polio program.

Earlier, the prime minister reached Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala, where the PTI chairman welcomed the prime minister.
