Suicide attack outside Elite Police Training Center, Razzakabad Karachi

KARACHI: At least 13 policemen were killed and 47 others including civilians injured in a suicide blast that ripped through a police bus near Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Center in Karachi’s Razzakabad area on Thursday morning.

The incident took place when a suicide bomber smashed his explosive-laden vehicle into a police bus carrying staff of Special Elite Unit of Police who were on their way to discharge their duties at Bilawal House. This Unit is attacked many times in past also by the Taliban militants.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar said that 25 kilograms of explosives were used in the attack.

The dead bodies and injured were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment respectively where six policemen were said to be in critical condition, according to the hospital sources.

Following the blast, the entire area was cordoned off and all roads leading to spot was closed for traffic.

Police sources said that attack had same style like of attack on Ch. Aslam. This police centre provide policemen for the security of Bilawal House, Polio team and other high profile security assignment.

Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Centre (SBB, EPTC) , Razzakabad was founded in 1990. Trained Police personnel fight against terrorism, Anti Hi Jacking, Heinous Crimes, Kidnapping for Ransom and specially trained for sectarian Violations and Ethnic clashes in the Urban and Rural areas of Sindh.

Sindh Police Department established this Centre in the year 1990, after occupying the land measuring 80 acres. Initially the centre was meant for the recruit Police training course till 1992 and in the same year this institution was formally converted into “Elite Anti Terrorist Training Centre”. initially Army Instructors with help of HQ-5 Corps and gradually the Police Trainers replaced the Army Instructors. At present this training is being conducted by the Police Trainers, since then 27 batches comprising almost 27000 personnel successfully completed their course.
