ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that it is necessary to seek the opinion of members of the Parliament on dialogue with the Taliban, adding that every step will be taken for peace in the country.
A meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary party was held in Islamabad on Monday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed security situation and other national issues. The members of the National Assembly and Senate belonging to PML-N attended the meeting.
During the meeting, it was decided that political parties will be taken into confidence regarding the government’s future course of action.
The prime minister said that Pakistan is facing serious security threats and the government is fully aware of its responsibilities. He said that every step will be taken for peace in the country.
Sharif said that without eliminating terrorism and extremism‚ Pakistan cannot make progress. He said that we have to save the future of our nation.
The premier said that personnel of security forces are sacrificing their lives in the war against terrorism. He said that their sacrifices will not go to waste.
During the meeting, the federal minister for interior Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan provided a briefing on the Karachi operation, the security situation in the country and the Taliban’s offer to hold talks with the government.
The sources said that the interior minister said that the decision to hold talks or conduct an operation against the Taliban would be taken by the prime minister and leadership of the country.
The interior minister further said that he did not trust the Taliban anymore as they were asking for talks and killing innocent people at the same time.
Meanwhile, the federal minister for finance Ishaq Dar said that terrorism had taken its toll on investment and the performance of industries. He added that by the end of the fiscal year, Pakistan’s Forex reserves will reach $16 billion.
