ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Friday that the issue of former President Pervez Musharraf is Pakistan’s internal matter and no other country has any role in this matter.

The statement came in an apparent reference to the media reports about the upcoming visit of Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal to Islamabad, claiming that he is visiting Pakistan to play his role in the case of Pervez Musharraf, who is currently admitted to a Rawalpindi’s military hospital for heart problem.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that the visit of the Saudi foreign minister is part of routine interaction between the two countries.

The Saudi foreign minister will arrive in Islamabad on Monday on a two-day official visit to hold important talks with Pakistani leadership on various bilateral‚ regional and international issues.

The FO spokespersons said that his visit was scheduled during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.

Tasnim Aslam said that similarly UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is also in Pakistan on a private visit for hunting.

To a question‚ the spokesperson said that Pakistan stance on US drone strikes on the country’s territory has not changed, adding that such strikes are unacceptable‚ which violate Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity.

Talking about Pakistan-Indian relations‚ the spokesperson said that Pakistan wants to restore dialogue process with India at the earliest for sustainable engagements. She said a mechanism is already in place for Pak-India dialogue.

The spokesperson further said that Pakistan will continue to contribute positively in the Afghan peace process, and expressed the hope that 2014 will prove to be the year of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

In reply to a question regarding US drawdown‚ the Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan will continue its sincere efforts for the success of Afghan reconciliation process and establishing peace in the region.
