JERUSALEM:  A rocket blast struck southern Israel on Tuesday, first attack reportedly launched by the Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip after truce arrived between them and Israeli forces in November last year, Israeli police said.

The rocket caused some damage to a road near the city of Ashkelon in southern Israel but no injury has yet been reported.

Following the rocket blast, trace may come to an end that was placed between Gaza and Israel after an eight-day Israeli military operation in Gaza which left over 100 Palestinians and two Israelis dead.

The strike followed days of confrontation between Israeli security forces and Palestinian protesters in the West Bank over the death of a Palestinian man in an Israeli custody.
