PakistanPut Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’s Malik Ishaq on trial; demands Hazara community

QUETTA: Quetta’s two recent deadly bombings victim, Hazara community, on Saturday demanded the trial of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) leader Malik Ishaq, a day after police captured him from his residence at the Airport Road in the central city of Rahim Yar Khan, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

The Sunni militant organization, whom Ishaq leads, claimed responsibility for the recent deadly attacks that rocked the Quetta city twice within a short span of time taking around 180 lives of Shia Hazara minority and prompting nationwide condemnation and protests.

“We have always been demanding arrest of all those involved in any act of sectarian violence, irrespective of their party affiliation,” said Abdul Khaliq Hazara, leader of the Shiite Hazara Democratic Party.

“Ishaq must be brought to justice and punished for involvement in violence,” he added.

The LJ leader’s latest arrest, which came a day after the Pakistani army denied having links with the banned terror outfit, should not be an “eye wash”, said Sajid Naqvi, leader of the Shia Ulema Council.

“We demand his trial and the authorities should provide protection to witnesses who would like to appear in the court,” he said.

On Friday, Ishaq said he had been detained in connection with the Quetta bombings. On the other side, police officials said that he was arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order law.
