North AmericaPakistan strongly condemns US drone attack in Miranshah

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned the US-led drone strike in Miranshah bazaar in the North Waziristan tribal region which killed at least three persons.

At least three persons were killed and three others injured late Wednesday night when the US-led drone fired two missiles on a compound in the Zafar Town area near Miranshah bazaar, the agency headquarters of the North Waziristan tribal region.

In a statement issued on Thursday‚ the Foreign Office spokesman said that these strikes are a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said that there is an across the board consensus in Pakistan that these drone strikes must end.

The spokesman said the Pakistani government has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive‚ entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications. He said that such strikes also set dangerous precedents in the inter-state relations.

The FO spokesman said that these drone strikes have a negative impact on the mutual desire of both countries to forge a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region.
