SportsSachin Tendulkar announces retirement from Test cricket

NEW DELHI: Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar announced on Thursday that he would retire after playing his 200th cricket Test match next month as his country will play a two-Test series against the West Indies in November.

“It’s been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world,” Tendulkar, the highest run-scorer in the history of Test cricket, said in a statement.

“I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President N Srinivasan said in a statement that “We respect Sachin’s decision to retire although many of us can’t imagine an Indian team without Sachin.”

“No one has served Indian cricket as Sachin has. He has truly been an ambassador for India & Indian cricket,” he added.
