Rawalpindi:  A special ceremony was held at Joint Staff Headquarters as the Armed Forces of Pakistan bid farewell to General Khalid Shameem Wynne, the outgoing Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee who retires today after 42 years in active services.

The ceremony was attended by General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff, Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila, Chief of the Naval Staff, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, senior officers from the three services and officers of the Joint Staff Headquarters.

A smartly turned out Joint services guard presented salute as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee arrived at the venue. General Khalid Shameem Wynne reviewed the parade.

Later while addressing the officers and troops at Joint Staff Headquarters, CJCSC applauded the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces in defending the motherland, be it a conventional or the unconventional threat. He reiterated that defence of the country is impregnable and gallant soldiers, sailors and airmen will not hesitate in making it even more formidable.

Wynne hails from an army background and hails from soldier-producing area of Sialkot. His father, Lieutenant Colonel Arshad Shameem Wynne served in the Pakistan Army till 1972. His unit was the 20th battalion of the Punjab Regiment. Wynne did the paratrooper course, and joined 20th Paratrooper Regiment of 50th Airborne Division of Pakistan Army. He got his earlier education from various cantonment schools all over Pakistan and joined Cadet College Hasan Abdal as special entry in 1969 after matriculation. He held a Colour for being a member of the College cricket team.

After his intermediate examination in 1971, he joined the Army, passing out in April 1972 in the 1st Special War Course to join his father’s battalion, 20 Punjab Regiment. He graduated from Command and Staff College, Quetta; Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr, Hamburg, Germany; and the National Defence University, Islamabad. He holds a masters degree in War Studies from Quaid-i-Azam University.
