ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased General Sales Tax (GST) rate to 19 percent on more than 40 electronic appliances, reports said.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a notification in this regard which says that increased GST rate will be applicable on various household items including air conditioners, fans, bulbs, gas appliances, geysers, heaters, refrigerators, televisions, telephones etc. Likewise, GST rate has also been raised on some edible items including biscuits, chocolates, toffees etc.

The FBR has also notified a decrease in GST rate by two percentage points on some items including ready-made garments.
