ISLAMABAD: The federal government still wants to initiate peace talks with the Taliban militants despite the recent spate of deadly bombings in Peshawar, the capital of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Prime Minister’s adviser on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz said on Thursday.

More than 140 people were killed as three bombings struck the city of Peshawar in the space of a week. However, the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) denied responsibility for these attacks.

“Despite these incidents the dialogue option should be pursued, because the Taliban are many groups and many of them have said they do want to pursue dialogue,” Aziz told reporters. “There are some elements who want to disrupt the dialogue but the whole purpose of the dialogue is to put an end to such incidents,” he added.
