KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Wednesday ordered 14-day physical remand of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Kazim Abbas Rizvi, the man arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of advocate Naimat Ali Randhawa.

Rizvi was produced before the court on Wednesday amid tight security, following which his remand was ordered.

On Tuesday, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Police Shahid Hayat said in a press briefing that Rizvi was associated with MQM’s Unit 178, adding that during the initial investigation, the accused had confessed to killing Randhawa. He said Rizvi had killed Randhawa for pursuing the case of TV reporter Wali Babar who had been killed in 2011.

Hayat said that Rizvi was also involved in targeted killings of eight other people, adding that raids were being conducted to arrest three other accomplices of the accused.

Randhawa, a senior lawyer and the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) legal wing for Sindh, was killed in an attack in Karachi’s Nazimabad area last week.
