WorldVenezuelan President Hugo Chavez returns home

CARACASL Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Monday that he has returned to his country more than two months after he underwent cancer surgery in Cuba that threatened to end his 14-year rule of the South American OPEC member.

“We have arrived back in the Venezuelan fatherland. Thanks, my God! Thanks, my beloved people! Here we will continue the treatment,” the 58-year-old socialist leader wrote on his Twitter account.

“Thank you to Fidel, Raul and all of Cuba! Thank you to Venezuela for so much love!” Chavez added.

Chavez has been the Venezuelan President for 14 years and was re-elected for another six-year term in October 2012, but his swearing-in was delayed because of his illness.

The President went to Havana for surgery on December 11, his fourth operation in an 18-month period for cancer first diagnosed in mid-2011.
