SportsZimbabwe clinch historic win against Pakistan

HARARE: Zimbabwe beat Pakistan by 24 runs in the second and last Test match at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday. The two-match Test series is tied at 1-1.

Needing 106 to win on the final day, Pakistan resumed at 158/5. They eventually capitulated for 239 as last batsman Rahat Ali was run-out for 1. Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq remained not out on 79.

Zimbabwe’s attack was led by seamer Chatara, who had 5-61 and three of the five wickets on Saturday to give the home team its first win over a top test team for over a decade.

Zimbabwe have won only 11 Test matches of the 94 they have played, with the latest, this historic one against a much stronger and touted Pakistan side.

This is Zimbabwe’s third Test win over Pakistan. In fact they have come a full circle having garnered their first ever Test win – by an innings and 64 runs – against this very opposition in 1994-95 season.

Zimbabwe have since then beaten Pakistan at Peshawar in 1998. They have twice gone on to beat India too, on this very ground in Harare while all their other Test wins – six – have come against Bangladesh – 4 of them at Harare.
