HeadlinesSC orders appointment of Chairman NAB at earliest

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday directed the federal government to appoint Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) immediately.

A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing appointment of Chairman NAB case in Islamabad on Friday.

During today’s hearing, the bench observed that the post of chairman NAB is vacant for the past many months‚ which is delaying investigation of many mega scandals.

The court‚ in its order‚ asked the government to take the orders seriously and appoint the chairman NAB at the earliest, adding that it is the responsibility of the federation to make the NAB fully functional.

Earlier‚ Attorney General Munir A Malik sought one week time for the appointment of Chairman NAB. The court rejected the arguments of the attorney general describing them as irrelevant.

The attorney general said consultation is underway for the appointment of an uncontroversial chairman NAB. He said the appointment has not been made due to the visit of leader of the opposition abroad.

The court adjourned hearing of the case for an indefinite period.
