QUETTA: The Balochistan government on Saturday withdrew its petition seeking transfer of the Akbar Bugti murder case from Quetta’s anti-terrorism court to Islamabad.

A two-member bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) headed by Qazi Faez Isa was hearing the Akbar Bugti murder case in which former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has been booked as an accused.

During today’s proceedings, assistant advocate general told the court that the government will provide full security to Pervez Musharraf.

On this, Musharraf’s lawyer told that blasts have occurred in the same area few days ago due to which security concerns exist for his client.

Responding to Musharraf’s counsel, the Chief Justice BHC Justice Qazi Faez Isa questioned him that what happened after the blasts occurred at Marriott Hotel. Did the government seize to function after that and that who was governing at that time.

The court, then disposed of the plea after the provincial government retracted the request to transfer the case to the capital city.

Balochistan nationalist leader Akbar Khan Bugti was killed in a cave on August 26, 2006 during a military crackdown ordered by Musharraf who was president and army chief at the time.

Bugti had led an armed campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources. The death of the Baloch chieftain sparked angry protests in the country.
