KABUL: An explosion took place in a graveyard in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday killing at least 7 women and 7 children while three other women and another child were injured, authorities said.

According to reports, a group, comprised mostly of women, was visiting the grave of a relative who died while working for security forces when an improvised explosive device, planted near the grave, exploded leaving at least 7 women and 7 children dead. In the blast, three other women and another child were also injured

“An explosion happened in a graveyard,” Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, police spokesman for Nangarhar province, said.

“Ten women were killed in the blast, two other women and a child were also wounded,” Mashriqiwal added.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
