ISLAMABAD: The imports of mobile phones into the country declined by 10.8 percent during fiscal year 2012-13 over the same period of last year.

According to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the imports of mobile phone into the country during July-June (2012-13) were recorded at $613.858 million against the imports of $688.173 million during July-June (2011-12).

Similarly the mobile phone imports into the country during the month of June 2013 increased by 22.11 percent and 117.81 percent when compared to the imports in June 2012 and May 2013 respectively.

The mobile phone imports during February 2013 stood at $68.594 million against the imports of $56.174 million in June 2012 and $31.492 million in May 2013, the data revealed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s trade deficit during the last financial year (2012-13) narrowed by 4.02 percent as exports witnessed positive growth of 3.78 percent over the corresponding period of last year.

The exports during July-June (2012-13) were recorded at $24.518 billion against the exports of $23.624 billion recorded during July-June (2011-12), showing positive growth of 3.78 percent.

On the other hand, the imports into the country witnessed very nominal increase of 0.08 percent by going up from $44.912 billion last year to $44.950 billion during fiscal year 2012-13, the data revealed.

Based on these figures, the overall trade deficit during 2012-13 stood at $20.432 billion against the deficit of $21.288 billion in 2011-12, showing negative growth of 4.02 percent.
