ISLAMABAD: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) on Tuesday deferred approval of the new energy policy following reservations expressed by Sindh.

The newly-constituted CCI held its meeting in Islamabad with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair on Tuesday to devise new energy policy and to review law and order situation in Karachi and Quetta.

All the four chief ministers, concerned ministers and members of the council attended the meeting to finalize the national energy policy after consultation with provinces.

During the meeting, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah expressed serious reservations over the new energy policy and said that Sindh produces over 70 percent of the total country’s gas and, therefore, it should have ‘first right to use’ the gas.

Following reservations by Sindh, a special committee was constituted comprising on all provinces to review the policy in the light of the constitution which will submit its report within a week.

According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians.
