AfghanistanAfghan forces ready to assure country’s security: Kabul

KABUL: The Afghan government has welcomed US President Barack Obama’s announcement that 34,000 troops would be pulled out of Afghanistan in the next year, saying that in order to assure the country’s security, Afghan troops are ready to take the responsibility.

“We welcome this,” Defense Ministry spokesman Mohammad Zahir Azimi said on Wednesday, adding that Afghan forces will fill the “vacuum” caused by the withdrawal of 34,000 American troops over the next 12 months.
