Shusha, Azerbaijan: Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev has said that Azerbaijan attached great importance to its membership of D-8.
Addressing here at the ceremony of presentation of the D-8 Media Excellence Center’s strategy held on the sidelines of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, Hikmet Hajiyev explained the importance of D-8.

“Today, the Media Excellence Center has already become fully functional, and we do hope that the D-8 countries will actively use the Media Excellence Center, which belongs to our D-8 media family,” the Assistant of the President added, reports
Addressing the event, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood Secretary General of the D-8 Organization hoped that member states would jointly address opportunities as well as challenges of 21st century media sphere.
It may be remembered Azerbaijan became a full member of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) last year (2025). With Azerbaijan’s accession, the D-8 expanded from eight to nine member countries. The organization was founded to promote economic cooperation among developing countries. Its original members are Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Türkiye.
Azerbaijan’s membership has strengthened cooperation in areas including trade, investment, energy, media, transport, technology and sustainable development. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev gives special attention to development of D-8 and believes organisation would actively contribute to uplift human development in member states. The D-8 has a combined population of more than one billion people and aims to increase economic cooperation among its members through joint initiatives and development programs.
