Iran officially rejects reports about ceasefire talks, calling it creating a pause for further preparation for attacks on Iran
Monitoring Desk: Iran has rejected reports about ceasefire talks. Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, April 6, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei dismissed claims in foreign media regarding a proposal for a ceasefire in the US-Israeli military campaign and Iran’s response to it.
While responding to questions about news reports published in foreign media, he stated that such reports about ceasefire developments often merely serve to create pauses for the strengthening of forces in preparation for further aggression.
He argued that no rational person would engage in such tactics, insisting that Iran’s demands must be respected, alongside avoiding cycles of ceasefire and war.
Baqaei further stated that the United Nations has often proven to be an instrument of powerful nations; therefore, when dealing with issues tied to national security, Iran must ensure that actions are taken to guarantee a halt to aggression.
Commenting on speculation about a ceasefire proposal, he asserted that Iran had previously articulated its stance clearly. Just days earlier, he noted, a 15-point plan was presented through intermediaries, which Iran deemed excessive and unreasonable. Baqaei insisted that, regardless of that proposal, Iran has compiled its own set of demands aligned with its national interests.
It may be mentioned that since last 20 days foreign media had been spreading news that Iran is ready for ceasefire talks with regional friends but Iran had been saying that it would not talk about opening of Strait of Hormuz with regional friends.
Regional analysts believe that Iran wants guarantees from countries such as EU, Russia and China that Iran would not be bombed again in future by global north and Iran would not open Strait of Hormuz to facilitate United States and its allies in the region.
