Islamabad: August 1, 2025: Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that Pakistan will receive the heaviest spell of monsoon in the last week of August, resulting in urban and rural flooding.
In a briefing chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to review the loss of life and property due to the recent monsoon, Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik briefed the meeting on the losses caused by severe monsoon across the country and stated that a total of 295 deaths have occurred across the country so far in the recent monsoon season, while more than 700 people have been injured. More than 1600 houses have been completely destroyed, while 376 livestock have also been affected by the rains.
There is severe flooding in the rivers and canals in the recent monsoon season. Low levels are expected at Tarbela Chashma, Taunsa, Kalabagh, while medium levels of flooding are expected at Head Marala and Guddu in the Chenab River.
The recent monsoon season is likely to be severe at the end of August.
The meeting was attended by Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Mosaddiq Malik, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Chairman N. D. M. A. Inam Haider Malik, and other high officials and government officials.
