ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Interior Senator Mohsin Naqvi has expressed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen relations with the Chinese region of Xinjiang in all areas, particularly emphasizing the need to curb smuggling of drugs, weapons, and other materials.

In a meeting with a high-level delegation which led by China’s Minister of Political and Legal Affairs Chen Meng Wu met him in Islamabad on Saturday, Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that Xinjiang holds significant importance for Pakistan in its relations with China, noting that as a neighboring region, Xinjiang shares a 600-kilometer border with Pakistan.

The interior minister also mentioned that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) passes through Xinjiang.

During the meeting, both sides discussed relations between Pakistan and China, with a particular focus on Xinjiang, and shared views on matters of mutual interest.

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as counter-terrorism, cross-border collaboration, anti-smuggling, and drug control.

The possibility of conducting Joint Exercises between Police and Paramilitary Forces in Gilgit-Baltistan or Xinjiang, specifically in the field of counter-terrorism, was also discussed.

It was agreed that Police Officers from Gilgit-Baltistan would receive training at the Xinjiang Police Academy.

Both parties acknowledged that terrorism is a global issue, and comprehensive measures will be taken to counter it.

Additionally, it was decided that a Pakistani delegation led by the Federal Interior Secretary would soon visit Xinjiang to further mutual cooperation.

Mohsin Naqvi said that the visit of the Pakistani delegation would open new avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The Chinese Minister of Political and Legal Affairs Chen Meng Wu extended an invitation to the Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to visit Xinjiang.

Chen Meng Wu also said that China is committed to advancing relations with Pakistan in all sectors. He noted that terrorism is a common issue, highlighting that Xinjiang had also suffered from terrorism for many years, and that Pakistan could benefit from Xinjiang’s experience in counter-terrorism.

The Chinese delegation included the Deputy Secretary of the Xinjiang Parliamentary and Legal Affairs Committee, the Executive Director General of Police, and the Vice President of the Xinjiang Police Academy.

The meeting was also attended by the Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha, Special Secretary for Interior Affairs Waqas Ali Mahmood, and Additional Secretary for Interior Affairs Nazar Muhammad Buzdar.
