ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has said that data regulation and cybersecurity are the topmost priorities of the present government.
While addressing Roundtable on Open Data Flows & Pakistan’s Digital Economy held at Ministry of IT on Thursday, she said that Ministry of IT & Telecom is committed for the growth of IT Sector, as taking IT exports up to US$ 25 billion is our target.
The Managing Director Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) Jeff Paine, Google and Meta representatives attended the Roundtable Session.
The Convener Digital Pakistan Committee Tania Aidirus and Secretary IT Aisha Humera Chaudhry were also present.
In her remarks, Shaza Fatima further said that on the directives of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, private sector is being fully supported and facilitated.
Shaza Fatima said that steps are being taken for transforming Pakistan into Digital Economy.
Detailed discussion was held on data localisation, and the participants also gave recommendations regarding data hosting and data sensitivity.
The authorities of Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), National Information Technology Board (NITB), and Senior Officers of the Ministry of IT also participated in the Roundtable Session.
