ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ambassador of Tajikistan Sharifzoda Yusuf Toir held a meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Friday.

While fondly recalling his recent visit to Dushanbe earlier in July 2024, the prime minister said that he was touched by the warm welcome extended to him and hailed the friendly and productive discussions with the Tajik President Emomali Rahmon during the visit.

Expressing satisfaction at the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and agreements signed between the two sides during his visit, the prime minister urged that timely implementation and follow up will strengthen bilateral ties even further.

Shahbaz Sharif renewed his invitation to Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience. He added that Pakistan is looking forward to Tajikistan’s participation in the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad in October this year.

The Tajik Ambassador Sharifzoda Yusuf Toir briefed the prime minister on a number of proposals aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields including education, agriculture and defence as well as connectivity through land and air routes.

While noting the proposals, the prime minister tasked relevant Ministries to get in touch with the Tajik Ambassador for further discussions.

Regional connectivity projects including CASA-1000 also came under discussion.

The Tajik ambassador thanked Shahbaz Sharif for receiving him, conveyed greetings of his president to the prime minister and expressed his Country’s desire to further enhance its relations with Pakistan.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
