The security forces killed a high-profile terrorist in an hours-long operation in Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday; however, all roads leading towards scenic tourist destinations including Babusar Top and Chilas remain open for traffic.
The operation was conducted by the security forces in the Darel District of Gilgit-Baltistan, resulting in the death of Terrorist Commander Shah Faisal and injury of his accomplice Zahidullah.
The killed terrorist Shah Faisal was the masterminded behind a bus attack in Chilas in December 2023 which had left nine people dead and 21 injured.
Unfortunately, according to the GB’s Interior Minister Shams Lone, seven other people including a young girl, an elderly man, and four Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts also suffered injuries during the exchange of fire with between the security forces and terrorists.
Shams Lone told that the hours-long shootout led to a very tense situation in the district.
The GB Government Spokesperson Faizullah Faraq told that the security has been put on high alert at the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and Gilgit City.
However, Faizullah Faraq also clarified that the main roads have not been officially closed and traffic was moving as usual, telling that the said operation was conducted far from the KKH and Babusar-Naran Road.
“The situation has now returned to normal and there are no large-scale operations ongoing. Life is back to routine and the security perimeter has been expanded,” he said.
