ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director Geir T. Tonstol met with the Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain at the Ministry in Islamabad on Monday.

Accompanying Geir Tonstol were the Social Protection Specialist Guillermo Montt and Senior Programme Officer Saghir Bukhari while officers from the concerned wing of the Ministry also attended.ILO Country Director meets Chaudhry Salik Hussain

The ILO Country Director congratulated the minister on his appointment and expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s collaboration with the ILO in advancing the country’s decent work agenda.

Discussions during the meeting focused on several key areas including the ongoing fourth Decent Work Country Program, government priorities for ratifying international labor standards, plans for a national tripartite labor conference scheduled for May 2024, Pakistan’s participation as a pathfinder country in the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection, and the persistent mine accidents in Balochistan province.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration in these important areas concerning workers.
