The Active Youth Group of Sahiwal has commemorated the assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti, a Pakistani politician and Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs who was tragically killed in 2011.
Human Rights activist Ashiknaz Khokhar said that Bhatti was a prominent Christian figure and a strong advocate for the rights of religious minorities in Pakistan. Bhatti worked tirelessly to promote interfaith harmony and spoke out against discriminatory laws. His assassination was a devastating loss, highlighting the challenges faced by those advocating for minority rights in the Country.
Minority issues in Pakistan include concerns such as religious discrimination, blasphemy laws, and social inequalities. Addressing these challenges requires efforts to ensure equal rights, protection, and representation for all communities.
Fr. Nadeem Joseph said that promoting interfaith harmony, reforming discriminatory laws, and fostering inclusive policies are crucial steps toward creating a more tolerant and diverse society in Pakistan. It’s essential to address these issues to build a nation that respects the rights and dignity of all its citizens, regardless of their religious or ethnic background.
Fr. Haroon, Dr. Martin, Babu Asif, Zafar Suneel, Asher Masroor and others also shared their views on Shahbaz memorial.
