ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday granted bail to the former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the Cypher Case.

A three-member bench of the Apex Court comprising the acting Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah granted the bail to both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders against surety bonds of Rs 1 million each.

The PTI Chief Imran Khan had approached the Supreme Court for a bail relief in the Cypher Case after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected his post arrest bail application on October 27.

The Cipher Case pertains to a diplomatic document that the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) charge sheet alleges was never returned by Imran Khan. The PTI has long held that the document contained a threat from the United States to oust Imran Khan as the prime minister.

The Special Court (Official Secrets Act) had begun the Cipher Trial afresh last week at the Adiala District Jail after Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi were indicted for a second time in the Case on December 13.

Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation.
