ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, asking for a meeting to set a date for holding the general elections.

In the letter written on Wednesday, the president invited the Chief Election Commissioner for a meeting today or tomorrow to decide the date of the general elections.

The letter stated that President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of the then Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on August 09, 2023.

Under Article 48 (5) of the Constitution, the president is obliged to fix a date for holding the elections within 90 days of the date of dissolution of the National Assembly, the letter further said.
