ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly was told on Frid that a total of 10 and 06 Pakistanis were detained in Russia and Ukraine respectively.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari told the House in writing while replying to a question that in Russia, majority of Pakistani prisoners is detained on charges of illegal migration.

The minister told that Pakistan Mission has taken up the matter with the concerned Russian authorities to verify their credentials and grant of consular access.

It was further apprised that five detainees in Ukraine are held for illegal border crossing and one is convicted on grounds of murder of a civilian and has been awarded 13 years sentence.

The embassy remains in contact with the Ukrainian authorities for provision of necessary assistance to Pakistani nationals including processing of their cases for early deportation, the minister said.

Over 3,000 Pakistani prisoners detained in Saudi Arabia

Separately, it was also told to the House that there are over 3,000 Pakistani prisoners detained in various jails of Saudi Arabia.

The foreign minister told that as a consequence of Missions’ efforts, 5,433 Pakistanis from central jails were released/deported while 5,379 prisoners were released/deported from detention centers from 2019 to May 2023.

The Missions also released/repatriated 250 Pakistanis after arranging payment of their fines/penalties.
