South AsiaPakistan releases 200 Indian fishermen

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistani government released further 200 Indian fish workers on Thursday as a humanitarian gesture.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that the release of Indian fishermen and civilians demonstrates Pakistan’s consistent policy of not politicizing humanitarian matters.

“We also hope that India would undertake similar humanitarian gestures and release Pakistani civilians and fishermen as well,” the Spokesperson said.

With the latest release, now 60 percent of the jailed Indian fishermen have been freed by Pakistan while India has released so far only 10 percent of the Pakistani fishermen incarcerated in Indian jail.

In a statement, the Pakistan India Peoples Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) said that it was a great relief amidst the news of death of another Indian fisherman, and noted that India must reciprocate better and follow a joint release plan.

The PIPFPD said that it is also most important to revive the Joint Judicial Committee between the two Countries.

The forum congratulated all peace workers who are working tirelessly for the release of the fishers and are providing solidarity.
