ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the amended Schedule of Punjab Election 2023 in the light of Supreme Court’s directives.

On April 4, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had annulled the ECP’s March 22 decision regarding the holding of election in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 08, ruling that polls could not be delayed beyond 90 days.

It was a unanimous decision of a three-member bench of the Apex Court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, the ECP stated that the polling will take place on May 14, 2023 as ordered by the Apex Court.

As per the revised schedule, the last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officer (RO) rejecting/accepting the nomination papers is now April 10 while April 17 is now the last date for deciding of appeals by Appellate Tribunal.

The revied list of candidates will be published on April 18 and following day will be last day for withdrawal of candidature and publication of revised list of candidates.

The contesting candidates will be allotted election symbol on April 20.ECP issues amended Schedule of Punjab Election 2023
