Pakistan‘No room for delay in elections’: PM Raja Pervez Ashraf

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf said on Thursday that ‘there is no room for delay in elections’, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

According to sources, Federal Law Minister Farooq H.Naek held a meeting with the PM today and briefed him over the role of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and possibilities of reconstitution in it as earlier chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr. Tahirul Qadri filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Thursday morning seeking reconstitution of ECP.

The law minister also apprised the PM of government’s measures aimed at free and transparent holding of elections.

Sources said that the PM has reiterated his commitment that free and fair polls would be held in the country “as per the spirit of law and the Constitution,” and that the caretaker setup would soon be agreed upon in consultation with the opposition.

The PM has categorically said that “there is no room for delay in elections,” sources said.
