National100 Pakistanis imprisoned in Iranian jails, NA told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: There are about 100 Pakistani prisoners incarcerated in Iranian jails in different crimes, the National Assembly was told.

Replying to a question by MNA Sikandar Ali Rahoupoto s imprisoned, the Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sajid Hussain Turi told the House on Friday that out of 100 Pakistani in Iranian jails, 62 are convicted and 38 are under trail.

The House was told that they are imprisoned in different crimes such as, drug possession & trafficking illegal entry, murder, espionage, corruption, theft, supply/use of alcohol etc.

It was also told that there are 12,992 Pakistanis workers having been registered for employment to Iran since 1971 till June 2022.

The minister further told that the government of Pakistan has so far not considered creating a post of Community Welfare Attaché (CWA) in the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran (Iran).

To another question, Sajid Hussain Turi told the House that 4,296,174 Pakistani workers are currently employed in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries.

Of them, 2,000,000 are working in Saudi Arabia, 1,755,972 in United Arab Emirates (UAE), 175,000 in Qatar, 239,023 in Oman, 68,179 in Kuwait, and 58,000 in Bahrain.
