Pakistan won the first Test match against Sri Lanka at Galle International Cricket Stadium by 4 wickets, becoming the first Test team to reach a target of over 300 runs set in the fourth innings for victory at the venue.

In their fourth innings, Pakistan reached the record target of 342 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

The opening batsman Abdullah Shafique Abdullah Shafique was declared Player of the Match for smashing unbeaten 160 runs.

Sri Lanka scored 222 and 337 runs respectively in their both innings. For the host, the middle-order batsman Dinesh Chandimal remained the top scored with 170. He stuck 76 and 94 runs respectively in each innings.

Whereas the left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya picked up 9 wickets in the match.

For Pakistan, the Captain Babar Azam scored 119 runs in the first innings while 55 runs in the second innings before he was bowled by Prabath Jayasuriya from leg stump.

The second and last Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will begin on July 24 at Galle.
