PoliticsPTI & PML-Q to move Supreme Court against LHC’s decision

LAHORE, Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have decided to approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) judgement, ordering the re-counting of votes for the election of Punjab’s Chief Minister.

Earlier in the day, a five-member bench of the LHC instructed that votes in the election held on April 16 to elect the Chief Minister be recounted on July 1, 2022 after excluding 25 votes of the PTI defecting lawmakers.

Sources said that the Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi held a consultation with a legal team headed by Ali Zafar Advocate.

It was told in the meeting that five PTI lawmakers are in Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage and six are also abroad for necessary work while five members have not yet been notified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) despite the decision of the High Court.

In addition, many constitutional and legal ambiguities exist in today’s verdict announced by the LHC.

It was decided in the meeting that legal points will be placed before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

In the consultation, apart from Ali Zafar Advocate, Moonis Elahi, Raja Basharat, Samsam Bukhari, Ghazanfar Abbas Cheena, Hussain Jahanian Gardezi, Hafiz Ammar Yasir and other lawyers were present.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
