KARACHI, Pakistan: The Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has said that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) will approve the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project in its next meeting to be held in February.

In his address at a function held regarding the restoration of the Cooperative Market in Karachi on Saturday, the minister said that under the Karachi Transformation Plan, the transaction structure of the KCR has been approved by the Public-Private Partnership Authority and after the ECNEC approval next month, the work on KCR will start.

Asad Umar said that the federal government is trying to solve the problems of Karachi because Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) believes in public service.

The federal minister said that in the past, there was no modern transport system in Karachi. He added that today people of Karachi are traveling in the Green Line Bus Transport, a project which was completed by the federal government under the Karachi Transformation Plan.

The minister said that the federal government is also working to address the issue of water in Karachi and soon the water problem of Karachi will be solved and water will be provided to the people of Karachi by the K-IV project.

The project will complete in 2023, he added.
